Jebel Shams

Jebel Shams is the Grand Canyon of Oman and one of the most incredible sights in the country.  Many places claim to have a grand canyon and not all live up to the hype.  The moment you lay eyes on it, you will see that it lives up to its name.  It is absolutely spectacular and a real highlight of any Oman road trip.

The mountain is located in the heart of the Western Hajar mountain chain in the Al Dakhiliya region and also hosts Jabal Akhdar.

There are several great viewpoints along the canyon’s edge that don’t require walking, but a short hike into the canyon offers a more dramatic view.

It is the highest peak in the Arabian Peninsula, rising 3,004 meters above sea level, and has many slopes and peaks.

A climate that is mild in summer and cold in winter is different from what most people are used to, life at the peak.

Jebel Shams is called because it is the first to greet the sunlight in the morning and the last to say goodbye at dusk.
